Wheat Fungicide Timing for Head Scab

Описание к видео Wheat Fungicide Timing for Head Scab

In this video, Pioneer Field Agronomist Jaime Farmer discusses ideal fungicide timing for wheat. Each season, one of the main targets of early season fungicide is Fusarium Head Blight or head scab. Head scab can be the most devastating disease of wheat when conditions favor its development. The disease reduces both grain yield and quality. This disease overwinters in diseased seed and residues of wheat. Spores are produced and blown onto the wheat heads, which germinate in free water on the head and invade the flower. Symptoms occur on the head after flowering. Individual spikelets or the entire head may be prematurely bleached. The bleached spikelets usually contain shriveled, scabby seeds and brown or black lesions may be present where the head joins the stem. Selecting tolerant cultivars and varieties can lessen the severity of infection. During the flowering period, foliar fungicides can be applied to mitigate the impacts of fusarium head blight.
