Filtering Beeswax with the DIY Solar Wax Melter

Filtering beeswax with the solar wax melter.

Okay, so I reckon I got about as much wax out of my dirty brood comb (see my other videos) so it was time to try and actually filter some beeswax to use with my lip balm and moisturiser bars.

This solar wax melter is about as simple as it gets; it's a black plastic tub with a glass lid.

All I've done is knocked up a simple timber frame with fly screen on it and then I filter the beeswax through paper towelling. It also works surprisingly quickly, too.

When I checked the wax melter at 11am, the wax was already fairly soft, but still maintaining its shape. Less than three hours later and most of the wax had melted and filtered through the paper towel.

I think that once the wax passed through the paper towel, it picked up some dirt from the fly screen. I've also seen on other peoples' channels that sunlight bleaches beeswax, so I've put most of the filtered beeswax in a clean plastic tub inside the solar wax melter with a little water in the bottom; I'm hoping that the wax will actually liquefy and float on the water, thereby allowing the remaining dirt to fall to the bottom.

I'll know in a week if it's worked or not. Thanks for watching and please click on the like button and subscribe to my channel if you haven't already.
