The ancient Egyptian pharaoh who is traditionally credited with the unification of Upper and Lower Egypt is Narmer, also known as Menes. He is considered the first ruler of the First Dynasty and is believed to have ruled around 3100 BC, give or take a hundred years. The unification of the two regions is symbolically represented on the Narmer Palette, an ancient artifact that depicts Narmer wearing the Double Crown of Egypt, which merged the Red Crown of Lower Egypt and the White Crown of Upper Egypt. While there is some debate and uncertainty surrounding the exact identity of Menes and whether he was the same person as Narmer, he is generally regarded as the figure responsible for consolidating the two lands into a single, centralized state.
