A Return Journey Along the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway (Hythe to Dungeness and back)

A Hythe to Dungeness return journey along the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch miniature Railway, featuring train views all 13 level crossings.

On this date I took a return trip along the unique Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway all the way from Hythe to Dugneness and back. This video mainly documents passing over all 13 level crossings on the line with protective equipment in both directions, and arrivals into and departures from the main station stops along the line are also featured. The total round trip was 26 miles, as the line covers 13 miles in each direction, a journey which took roughly an hour each way with stops. To address a slight innacuracy in the video, the trains actually run at a top speed of about 20-25mph, rather than the 15mph suggested within the video on the return journey. You may also note that we ran on the 'wrong' line between Hythe and Dymchurch on the way down, and as you'll see, this was due to a Permanent Way train most likely carrying out an inspection / works of some description.

Numerous pictures from the experience are featured, and the first few minutes documents movements in Hythe Station ready for our departure. The train was signalled towards Dymchurch and New Romney from Hythe on the Hythe-bound line due to the presence of a worker train which was overtaken by us just after Botolph's Bridge level crossing is seen (that level crossing's alarms can be heard in 'another train coming' mode).

This was a very unique experience, and even though the top speed of the train was 25mph, it felt so much faster! I hope you enjoy the video and the ride!
