Hey there gang!
I’m unleashing a heap of childhood memories on you here as I embark on a journey to recreate a series of iconic Bathurst moments via our amazing racing simulator Assetto Corsa.

This weeks installment is the 1990 Top 10 shootout lap by Allan Grice in the iconic Holden Racing Team VL Commodore known as the Walkinshaw or more commonly in Aus - the Walky!

Road going versions are rare as hens teeth and as pricey as saffron now. This was and continues to be a polarising car with many lovers and haters of its iconic design. This thing was a beast in its day and in 1990 despite starting from 6th on the grid, went on to win the great race.

This truly was a golden time in group A racing, with a great variety of manufacturers and engine configurations all competing for the honour of winning the iconic Bathurst 1000.
The greatest thing about this series was that Group A rules meant that the manufacturers had to sell 500 of a road going version - this made for some fantastic vehicles that were actually raced on Sunday, bought on Monday. Such a shame for our motoring industry that this did not continue.
The Holden Racing Team VL brought some tremendous things to the Australian car market such as it's fantastic twin throttle body inlet manifold, fuel injection and a fantastic sounding 304c.i. Australian made V8 engine - arguably one of the best sounding V8 engines around due to it's crank angle and timing. The sound is very well recreated in this mod also, be sure to crank the video up as you watch it!!

In this video I’m taking on the Bathurst circuit using a number of mods I’ll link below.
Was a heap of fun trying to achieve the same lap as Allan in my home rig and it certainly took a lot of practice and fine tuning to get there.
I’ve then edited the footage together to recreate the coverage from the tv, including making the various graphics and adding effects.
To add further to the experience, we’ve got the actual commentary from the late great Mike Raymond and his partner in crime Bruce McAvaney - both voices that are burnt into my memory from watching hours of Bathurst races as a kid!
