STORY:
Given that it's November, you probably are looking forward to have some turkey.

Let me tell you.

It's frequently considered that the Thanksgiving feast we know today evolved from the so-called "first Thanksgiving." There is an indication that in late 1621, Wampanoag people and Pilgrim immigrants at Plymouth colony had a feast together. However, there is no proof that turkey was served. The Wampanoag brought deer, and the Pilgrims brought wild "fowl" for meat. That "fowl" technically may have been turkeys as they were local birds, but historians believe it was more likely ducks or geese.
Thanksgiving feasts have been a tradition across nations and religions for ages, but the Pilgrim's feast as we know it today didn't emerge until the 1800s. It was around this time that the Thanksgiving meal in America evolved to include roasted turkey. This was due to a few factors. First, there were a lot of turkey during that time , as in millions. Another reason is there were always turkeys available for slaughter on a family farm as were Turkeys were grown solely for their meat and could therefore be easily killed, lastly , a single turkey was typically sufficient to feed an entire household due to its size.
Turkeys, however, were not yet associated with Thanksgiving. writer Sarah Josepha Hale contributed much to the idea of turkey as a holiday dinner. She included a detailed account of a New England Thanksgiving, complete with a roasted turkey as the center of the celebration.," this can be found in an entire chapter of her 1827 novel Northwood. Around the same time, she started an effort to make Thanksgiving a national holiday in the US because she believed it would assist the nation to come together as it tumbled on civil war. In 1863, Abraham Lincoln issued a presidential proclamation to celebrate thanksgiving on the last Thursday of November all these because of her actions.
Eventually, the historical connections between the Pilgrims, turkeys, and Thanksgiving were an essential and important component of American education. It is also practical to use a turkey as the main dish of Thanksgiving dinner table. It can feed a large group and is more readily available, less fatty, and more inexpensive than a goose.
So, in this thanksgiving, enjoy whatever food you have in the table, may it be a turkey or any other food, whats important is we celebrate for a reason and are grateful for what we have.

Happy Thanksgiving
