Hi! Thank you to all of the Organic Consumers Association members who sent beautiful banners to us for this action at the White House. The talks in Copenhagen are beginning and we're asking the President to go to Copenhagen with a strong message to take action on climate change. Organic consumers are concerned about climate change because it will disrupt agriculture in the world. It will make it more difficult to grow food because droughts and floods will become more common. But organic agriculture is actually the solution to climate change. Industrial food production is responsible for 30% of global greenhouse gas emissions today. But if we transitioned all of the world's farmland to organic, organic agriculture would sequester 40% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions. So, we need to go organic and we need to make sure agriculture is part of the climate talks. Right now, agribusinesses have been successful in getting agriculture out of the climate talks. Monsanto is going to the climate talks to try to get carbon credits for their soy production. They say it's a biofuel and they should get carbon credits. But we know that Monsanto's destructive industrial agriculture is part of the problem, not part of the solution.
