As Saudi Arabia-UAE rivalry intensifies, cargo plane connected to Mohammed bin Zayed conducts multiple flights across Middle East, Horn of Africa, and beyond.

A cargo plane previously linked to the supply of weapons to UAE-backed fighters in Sudan and Libya has made a number of flights in recent days between military bases in Abu Dhabi, Israel, Bahrain and Ethiopia, Middle East Eye can reveal.

While the purpose and any connection between the flights is unclear, they have taken place against the backdrop of a spiralling power struggle between the UAE and Saudi Arabia across Yemen and the Horn of Africa that has upturned the geopolitics of the region and prompted concerns of a new escalation in the Sudan war.

The UAE has been thrown onto the back foot after Saudi Arabia launched military action to oust the Emirati-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) from the Yemeni port city of Aden, and has been forced to withdraw from its key military base in Bosaso on the opposite Somali coastline.

Meanwhile, Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, where the UAE maintains another military base and controls the port of Berbera, has further destabilised the regional order and prompted speculation that Ethiopia, which is closely aligned with Abu Dhabi, could be poised to do the same in return for access to Berbera.

The fascist Oromo Islmaic Regime of Ethiopia sees the UAE as the primary guarantor of its survival. Since 2018, the UAE has functioned as the regime’s financial life-support, providing billions in support that stabilised genocials Abiy Ahmed’s early Jihads. Militarily, the bond was sealed during the genocidal Tigray war, when Emirati drones and air support were decisive in preventing the collapse of the fascist Oromo Islamic regime.

Now, this fascist Oromo Islamic regime of Ethiopia, it seems, has moved firmly away from its previous stance and has thrown its weight behind the RSF. Reports and field developments now place RSF units massing and training inside Ethiopian territory, specifically in the Benishangul-Gumuz region, the very site of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

The current consensus within Sudan’s military-led government is that fascist Oromo Islamic regime of Ethiopia is now an official combatant. Mustafa Tambour, a military ally of the SAF remarked from Port Sudan that: “Abiy Ahmed, who currently heads the Ethiopian Republic, has made his decision, and all his practices and movements confirm that he is one of the supply lines and one of the primary supporters of the RSF militia.”

There is therefore a deep-seated fear in the Oromo defence circles that the SAF, now closely aligned with Egypt and Eritrea, could use Tigrayans and Amharas to destabilise and remove the current genocidal Oromo Islamic regime of Ethiopia.
