It’s easy to fall into superlatives when describing Paganini’s Caprice No. 6. Ethereal and enchanting, it’s arguably the most mesmerizing of the 24 Caprices, but also the most punishing. Its relentless double-stop trills, measured yet merciless, stretch the player to the limit. Despite the exhaustion, we drift into a meditative trance, at times impossibly delicate, bathed in a cascade of trembling notes and the glow of shimmering moondust.
