Mercury has unfortunately seeped into the environment and then into our food supply from coal-fired power plants, certain manufacturing, and burning of various waste. Where has it ended up? In water, soil and even the air. Water sources have caused build up of mercury in many fish, some crops of rice, and even wine. Sadly, mercury is here to stay for the time being.

Why is mercury so bad? It is a toxin to our nervous systems, suppresses our immune system, increases risk of infertility and cancer. Mercury is even a hormone mimicker! High levels of mercury or lead may also increase risk of neurological diseases like dementia, Parkinson’s and ALS.

So let’s discuss what to avoid:

1. Medicinal Herbs that are not from certified local organic sources
2. High fructose corn syrup
3. Rice products and rice flour
4. Artificial food coloring
5. Wine (Italy, Argentina, and Brazil wines are the safest)
6. Seafood
