A new variant of the macOS malware known as UpdateAgent is showing that the malware has evolved into a dropper, to infect Mac computers with additional malware while bypassing the protections provided by Gatekeeper.

The new version of the malware is written in Swift and disguises itself as a Mach-O binary. UpdateAgent connects to a remote server, where it obtains a bash script that runs a malicious disk image file on the affected computer.
The fact that the malware author is continuing development on this malware shows that Mac computers are a viable target for cybercriminals, meaning that there is no better time than now to start taking cybersecurity on Macs seriously.
