STORY 1: THE BEACH OF GHOSTS
Nakagawara Beach, Mie Prefecture - July 28, 1955
36 junior high school girls drowned in calm, shallow water in just 15 minutes. 9 survivors reported the same impossible story: hundreds of women in WWII air-raid hoods rose from the ocean, standing on the water, reaching for them. They felt hands grabbing their ankles, pulling them under. Students watching from the beach confirmed seeing dark figures on the water.
Police investigation revealed that exactly 10 years earlier, 250 war refugees had been killed in that location by U.S. firebombing. The bodies were buried in a mass grave on the beach—without ceremony, without prayers—right where the girls were swimming. The beach remains closed to this day.
STORY 2: THE TSUNAMI POSSESSION
Kurihara, Tohoku - March 2011
After the tsunami killed 18,476 people, Buddhist priest Reverend Taio Kaneta began performing hundreds of exorcisms. One case: builder Takeshi Ono visited the devastated coast without showing respect. That night, he dropped to all fours, licking the floor, snarling "Everyone must die." He rolled in mud outside like he was drowning. For three nights, he saw muddy ghost families walking past his house. The priest's exorcism released the spirits—a pink jelly-like substance poured from Ono's nose as they left his body.
STORY 3: THE TAXI GHOSTS
Ishinomaki, Miyagi - 2011-2012
Taxi drivers across the tsunami zone reported identical encounters: passengers who gave addresses to destroyed homes, sat in silence, then vanished mid-trip. The drivers learned to continue to the ruined addresses anyway, opening doors to let invisible passengers out at empty foundations. The seats were always wet with seawater. Fire stations received phantom emergency calls from destroyed addresses. A civil servant saw a woman in a scarlet dress on an empty beach—she vanished when he approached.
