HERD Elephant Orphanage got a call one day. There was a baby elephant caught in a snare for over 4 days. When Khanyisa first arrived, the prognosis was not great. She had deep wounds created by maggots feeding off decaying fleash. Doctor stitched up cheek and mouth wounds then applied antibiotic cyclospray. After surviving the first night she heads out to the bigger elephant herd. But because of her wounds she hangs out with Lammie, a Pedi sheep, instead. Her wounds are extensive and feeding her is a problem. She will only drink if the bottle is positioned in the least sore spot. Even so her carers are happy to assist and play with her. She loves mud baths and like to splash water on her friends. Humans hurt her badly but she is not bitter and chose to trust humans again.
