The physical characteristics are defining traits or features of MSW. Some of such aspects could be visually apparent, some may need some experimentation on the field or laboratory. Typically for MSW some of the physical characteristics can be defined as identification of individual components, Particle size and Size distribution, Moisture content and Density (Specific Weight). These characteristics play an important role while deciding reuse and recovery, selection and operation of equipment and permeability of compacted waste in landfill site. For most municipal solid wastes, the characteristics will vary content wise which in turn will vary from place to place, extremes depending on the season of the year, and the humidity and weather conditions, particularly rain. This video is an educational resource and is focused on Definition, significance and determination of physical characteristics such as Identification of individual Components, Particle size and Size distribution, Moisture content, Density. Here as one learns the content he/she will be able to define, state the significance and procedure to determine physical characteristics viz.
