Chandigarh, May 25, 2025 — In a major policy shift impacting digital education, the Haryana government has officially discontinued free internet data for student tablets provided under the e-Adhigam scheme. The decision, effective from May 25, affects over 5 lakh students in government schools, primarily from Classes 10 to 12, who had been using these tablets for online learning.

Launched to promote digital inclusion and support the Digital India initiative, the e-Adhigam scheme provided pre-loaded tablets along with internet connectivity. However, officials have now cited budgetary constraints, device performance issues, and ageing hardware as reasons for ending the free data support.

Students are now expected to access digital content through school Wi-Fi networks or personal internet connections at home. This development has raised concerns among educators and parents about the growing digital divide and its impact on students from economically weaker sections who depend heavily on government support for educational resources.

While the government assures continued digital learning through other infrastructure, many question whether this move undermines the progress made in technology-driven education across the state.
