UN Petition Filed Over Alleged Torture of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi
A formal petition has been submitted to the United Nations regarding the alleged ongoing torture and mental distress faced by Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi. The petition was filed by renowned international human rights lawyer Jared Gensor, representing Zulfi Bukhari’s legal team. This application is based on a recent UN report that raises concerns about treatment, due process, and psychological pressure.
The petition calls for an immediate end to what is described as mental torture and seeks the release of Imran Khan. According to the legal filing, prolonged isolation, restricted meetings, and continuous pressure violate basic human rights standards. This move has internationalized the issue, shifting it from a domestic political conflict to a global human rights concern.
PTI Kohat Rally Amid Political Uncertainty
Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is set to hold a major public rally in Kohat. Senior leader Shehryar Afridi personally visited the venue late at night to review arrangements and issue final instructions. Kohat is Shehryar Afridi’s political constituency, from where he has previously been elected as a Member of the National Assembly, making the rally symbolically significant.
PTI leader Sohail Afridi is scheduled to address the gathering, along with other senior party figures. The rally is expected to clarify PTI’s future course of action at a time when the party appears internally divided and externally pressured.
Currently, Imran Khan’s meetings are completely suspended, heavy crackdowns are reported outside Adiala Jail, and discussions are ongoing about imposing a ban on PTI. There are also talks of declaring the party unlawful, filing treason cases, and even placing Imran Khan under military custody. Despite these alarming developments, PTI’s leadership appears uncertain, with disagreements reportedly emerging even within the party’s political committee.
What Happened Outside Adiala Jail?
A shocking account emerged through an interview given by Noreen Niazi, who described what she and her sister Uzma Khan experienced outside Adiala Jail. According to her, they were deliberately targeted with high-pressure water cannons.
She stated that the force of the water was so intense that they were thrown backward, and when they stood up, they were attacked again. Noreen Niazi claimed that if divine protection had not intervened, the intentions behind the attack could have been far more dangerous. This incident has further intensified concerns about excessive use of force and intimidation.
PTI Faces Another Institutional Setback
PTI suffered another significant blow in the Pakistan Bar Council elections. Out of 11 seats from Punjab, the PTI-backed group lost 9, winning only 3. Salman Akram Raja, Maqsood Ahmed and Shafqat Chauhan secured victories, while the rest were lost.
Despite the losses, Salman Akram Raja declared, “Today fascism has lost and democracy has won,” and claimed that Imran Khan would now be released. However, critics questioned this optimism, pointing out that losing 9 out of 11 seats hardly constitutes a victory.
Communication Breakdown Within PTI
PTI Secretary Information Sheikh Waqas Akram made a startling revelation. He stated that official messages from Imran Khan do not reach him directly. Instead, they are conveyed to overseas Pakistanis who later post them on social media, after which party office holders are expected to retweet them.
Who Is a Traitor?
Senior politician Javed Latif reignited the debate on loyalty and treason. He stated that several PML-N leaders met and benefited from interactions with Generals Bajwa and Faiz, questioning why such meetings are labeled treasonous for one group but acceptable for another.
He argued that selective labeling undermines justice and credibility, emphasizing that nations do not accept such biased interpretations of loyalty.
Massive Waste of National Resources by NAB
Another troubling development involves the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), which closed a corruption case against Dr. Asim after 11 years. The case involved allegations of corruption worth Rs 462 billion, yet NAB failed to recover even a single rupee.
Shockingly, NAB spent over Rs 425 million on investigations, inquiries, and legal proceedings. The case had reached the stage of indictment years ago but ultimately collapsed, raising serious questions about accountability, misuse of public funds, and institutional efficiency.
