Passengers is an upcoming American science fiction romance film directed by Morten Tyldum and written by Jon Spaihts. The film stars Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt. The film is set to be released by Columbia Pictures on December 21, 2016.

A spaceship, Avalon, traveling 120 years to a distant colony planet known as the "Homestead Colony" and transporting 5,002 people has a malfunction in two of its sleep chambers. As a result, two hibernation pods opens prematurely and the two people that awoke are stranded on the spaceship, still 90 years from their destination.

Cast
Jennifer Lawrence as Aurora Dunn, a writer, who wants to tell the story of space travel.
Chris Pratt as Jim Preston, a mechanic who wants to get off an Earth that no longer seems to value a guy who works with his hands. Pratt described his character as "a mechanic type of guy who fixes things and uses his hands. In the world that they live in, he has become obsolete, and he travels to a distant plane".
