Sandhya Vandanam is a form of Hinduism ritual prayer done in the evening, typically 3-5 PM. It is one of the daily duties prescribed for every Hindu devotee. In this ritual, devotees recite mantras, perform aartis, and make offerings to the divine.

To begin the ritual, the devotee is required to purify him or herself by performing a “Snaan” or bath. After the snaan, the devotee is then required to perform a “Puja” or offering to the deities. This may include reciting mantras, chanting hymns, and offering flowers and other consecrated items.

To conclude the ritual, the devotee will perform an aarti, in which he or she will circle an oil lamp around a chosen deity 3-7 times while chanting mantras. This aarti is done to symbolize the removal of all sins and to offer one’s respect and devotion to the chosen deity.

Afterwards, a prasadam is commonly offered to the deity. The prasadam that is offered is typically a sweet dish made of ghee mixed with sugar, honey, and other delicious ingredients. This prasadam is then shared among the family as a blessing from the deity.

The Sandhya Vandanam ritual is a very important tradition in Hindu culture and provides individuals with a sense of peace, contentment, and spiritual connection to their faith.
