The Government of Guyana has taken a significant step toward establishing a local law school by completing a feasibility study, Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Anil Nandlall said this week. The study was presented to the Council for Legal Education (CLE), a regional body overseeing law schools in Trinidad & Tobago, Jamaica, and The Bahamas. Nandlall shared that the report was well-received during last week's CLE meeting, where members expressed their gratitude and praised the quality of the findings. In response to the positive feedback, the Council has formed a high-level subcommittee tasked with advancing the initiative. This subcommittee includes key figures such as Nandlall, Justice Liesel Weekes SC (the CLE chairperson), Attorney General of Trinidad and Tobago Reginald Armour SC, Chief Justice of Belize Justice Louise Blenman, and CLE member Jacqueline Samuels-Browne. Dr. Lloyd Barnett, a prominent Jamaican lawyer, is also set to join the group. Nandlall confirmed that the subcommittee will convene soon to discuss the next steps in the process.
