Описание к видео Season Of Meaningful Giving | So Cool

The year-end holidays are a season of joy, of giving, and of spending! In this #SoCool segment, Jannelle So-Perkins introduces you to #WomenEntrepreneurs and #FilipinoArtisans that will help you find meaningful gifts — and hopefully, will encourage you to choose gifts that give back — Rumples Miranda, co-Founder of @kubohome.co and Rebecca Stanbridge of @lumago_designs.

“Lumagó” means “to blossom” in Filipino, and it was founded by Whitney Fleming in 2011, when a huge typhoon devastated an impoverished community in Dumaguete City. A group of women in the community learned how to make beads from rolled up paper, and they took it upon themselves to start producing and designing jewelry that Whitney would then sell to local resorts. Soon, they were reaching out to other markets to help make their project sustainable, and that’s when the Lumago social enterprise was born. Since then, Lumago has expanded from paper beads to include other upcycled materials that they turn into fashion accessories and handmade treasures, and help preserve our environment. Today, Lumago faces yet another challenge after super typhoon #OdettePH devastated Negros Island where their artisans live. Now more than ever, these women and their families need our help and support, especially as Christmas approaches.

Kubo was founded by Rumples and Katrina, sisters born and raised in Manila, who moved to New York City to pursue their careers and start their own families. Through Kubo, they stay connected to their Filipino heritage. According to their website, “Kubo is our love letter to traditional methods of Filipino craftsmanship, and the communities that make them. We hope to offer you products that evoke a sense of welcome and make your home a cherished part of who you are.” Their products are all made by hand (by weavers in Bicol and Quezon), Made by Filipinos, and Made with purpose.

Jannelle also mentions other Filipino-made products that we can choose for #MeaningfulGiving - Abra Weavers, and Ia’s Threads that make eco-friendly and ethical luxury bags.
