I was 15 years old when I heard about this card in January 1989. I already collected Cal Ripken cards, so when his brother came to the majors, I collected his cards also.

I remember very clearly my mom driving me to the only card shop in St Louis that was selling full unopened boxes of 1989 Fleer. You were guaranteed a FF card if you bought a box. I think I paid $50 for the box. And I got the FF card.

As time went on, collectors realized there were about 50,000+ of the FF card printed. That drove down the price. Today that card is worth about $1.00
Notice in this video, Fleer said if you send back the FF card, you can get the same card without the bad word. If you actually did that, Fleer would have sent a card with a whiteout over the bat. That version of the card is worth $200+.
There are approximately 10 different versions of the FF card. The rarest is the whiteout version. I was never able to obtain one. Even back then it was so rare, baseball card collectors didn't know if it existed because almost nobody sent back the FF card to Fleer.

FINALLY, Bill Ripken has said HE put the words on the bat. It took him over 20 years to confess to the prank.
