JOSÉ DE EÇA, tenor
As a young Portuguese tenor standing on the verge of an international career, José de Eça trained under the guidance of his father, the distinguished operatic baritone, and Lieder singer José de Oliveira Lopes. As a student he attended the Conservatório Superior de Música de Gaia, currently working with Douglas Susu-Mago.
Eça began his professional operatic career as a teenage performing in some of Mozart’s most charismatic operas Die Zauberflòte and Le Nozze di Figaro. More recently at Wexford Festival he sang the roles of Cappello (II bravo) and Nick (La Fanciulla del West). José de Eça made his first solo Oratorio debut with Círculo Portuense de Òpera (CPO) singing Haynd’s Missa in Augustis and Rossini’s Petit Messe Solenelle.
As a recitalist he presents himself throughout the country and often abroad. Internationally José de Eça stepped on many stages in various countries like Brazil (Teatro Camòes), Chile (Teatro de Las Condes), France (Fondation Gulbenkian), Italy (IPSAR), Ethiopia (Claude Debussy Festival), Zimbabwe (HIFA) and South Àfrica. More presently he preformed in China at the Meng Minwei Concert Hall (Beijing), at the Xinghai Concert Hall (Guanghzou) and in Egypt at Cairo’s Òpera House.
As an instructor he gave masterclasses both in China (Xinghai Conservatory) and Chile
(Universidad Mayor).
Throughout his career José de Eça collaborated with several pianists and conductors including: Paule Grimaldi; Teixeira Lopes; Adriano Jordào; Màrio Mateus; José Eduardo Gomes; Àngel Gonzàlez; Armando Vidal; Jonathan Brandani; Luís Costa, among many others.

LUIS COSTA, piano
Luis Costa took his first piano lessons from Zhuang Xiao Hua when he was 8 years old. A few years later he started studying with Alvaro Teixeira Lopes, who is still his professor and has always been a great inspiration to him. In 2012 he studied under the guidance of Friedemann Rieger at the Stuttgart Academy of Music, where he obtained his diploma with highest honors.
Luis Costa is a laureate of several competitions, including the “Le Mesnil des Arts” International Competition, the Concurso Ibérico do Alto Minho, the Santa Cecília International Music Competition (Porto) and the Jovens Músicos Chamber Music Prize. He has performed in recitals all over Portugal and abroad – including several recent appearances in Germany (Darmstadt, Reutlingen, Romrod, Filseck) where the daily Fuldaer Zeitung hailed him as a “musically sophisticated pianist”.
His career has led him to perform in cities such as Girona, Rome, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, Harare, Windoek, London, Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Leon, in venues such as the Casa da Música (Porto) and the Glenn Gould Studio (Toronto), etc., and at festivals such as the Saint Pere de Rodes Festival (Catalonia), the Festival Percursos da Música (Ponte de Lima), the Ciclo Jovens Talentos (Porto) and Musique en Vallée du Tarn (France). He has also appeared as soloist with the Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras, the Young Orchestra of Malaga (JOPMA), the Orquestra de Câmara da Maia and the Lusitanae Ensemble.
Luis Costa remains in frequent contact with pianist Joaquín Soriano in Madrid, also a great inspiration to him. He dedicates a significant portion of his activities to chamber music: he has performed with artists such as António Meneses, Lluis Claret, Hans-Peter Stenzl and Chagas Rosa. He also performs frequently in a piano-cello duo with Fernando Costa, his brother. Among his upcoming projects, Luis is scheduled to perform at the Prieuré Le Mesnil Saint Martin (France), in Rome, in Sweden, and he is planning a tour in China. He has recorded for Portuguese National Television (RTP), for Antena 2 Radio, CHIN Radio and NBC Television. Luis Costa is represented by KNS Artist Management.
