San Diego Homicide Suspects Arrested 09182024 (UPDATE)

A license plate reader picked up the plate of a murder suspect in the western portion of San Diego. Officers found the van with a male and female inside and followed them south on the I-5.

As more officers arrived, the suspects got off the freeway at National Ave and pulled into the parking lot of the Starbucks at 28th St & National Ave.
There were already officers in the parking lot, and with the following officers, a “Hot Stop” was made.

The suspects were considered to be “Armed & Dangerous. The Starbucks was evacuated. The two people in the van surrendered without incident.
The SDPD Homicide Detectives have been notified.

The homicide happened on 9-17-24 in the East Village portion of San Diego, where a male was stabbed and shot. He died at the hospital. Added Video: 3 dogs were found in the van while detectives started their work The 3 dogs were transferred to other Police vehicles.

UPDATE:

During their investigation, detectives developed probable cause that Alex Bailey was the suspect who shot the victim. Bailey is described as a 53-year-old Black male. On September 18, 2024, at approximately 1045 hours, Bailey was arrested during a traffic stop at 2800 National Avenue. He was arrested without incident. Detectives are working to book Bailey into County Jail for murder.

From SDPD Homicide Investigation in East Village 9-17-24

San Diego – A man was shot and stabbed to death in the East Village; Homicide Detectives are investigating. On Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at approximately 7:39 p.m., San Diego police officers working in East Village heard what sounded like gunshots near the area of 14th Street and Imperial Avenue. They responded to that location and found a man on the sidewalk suffering from gunshot and stab wounds.

The man was transported to a local hospital but unfortunately, he did not survive his injuries. The victim is described as a 53-year-old Black male. His name will not be released at this time.

San Diego Police Homicide Detectives were called to the scene to investigate. The preliminary investigation shows that a group of people were gathered on the sidewalk. There was some sort of altercation that led to the suspect shooting the victim, then another suspect stabbing the victim. The suspects fled the scene in different directions. The suspects are described as Black or Hispanic males in dark clothing. There is no further description to release regarding the suspects at this time.

Detectives are continuing to investigate this incident, including analyzing physical evidence collected from the scene, attempting to locate and interview witnesses, and canvassing the area for surveillance footage.
