In this video, we’ll learn how to register a list of raw materials sent by a supplier for boot production — directly into the QuickBooks inventory system.

Let’s begin!

🧾 Step-by-Step: Setting Up Raw Materials in QuickBooks
✅ Step 1: Click the ⚙️ Gear icon → Choose Products and Services
✅ Step 2: Click New → Choose Inventory (if you're tracking quantities) or Non-Inventory (if not)
✅ Step 3: Enter the following for each raw material:

Name: e.g., “Cowhide Leather,” “Rubber Sole,” “Laces,” “Thread,” “Foam Insole”

SKU/Code: optional, e.g., RM-001

Category: e.g., “Raw Materials – Boot”

Initial Quantity on Hand: if known

Inventory Asset Account: set as Raw Materials Inventory

Cost: unit cost from supplier

Sales price: leave blank unless reselling
✅ Step 4: Click Save and Close

Repeat this step for each material sent by your supplier.

📦 Step-by-Step: Recording the Purchase of Materials
✅ Step 1: Click + New → Choose Bill (or Expense if paid immediately)
✅ Step 2: Select your Supplier Name
✅ Step 3: In the Item Details, choose each raw material
✅ Step 4: Enter quantity and cost as per the supplier’s invoice
✅ Step 5: Set the Class (e.g., Boot Production) and Location (if applicable)
✅ Step 6: Click Save and Close

🏷️ Bonus: Organizing Raw Materials
Use Categories like: Leather, Chemicals, Accessories, etc.

Use custom fields for things like country of origin, grade, or supplier batch

Regularly run Inventory Valuation Reports to track available stock and consumption

📊 Viewing Raw Material Inventory
Go to:
📍 Reports → Search: Inventory Valuation Summary
You’ll see quantity and total value of each material in stock.
