Lij Iyasu's FAILED Islamisation of Ethiopia

Emperor Haile Sesallie's personal and political struggles against the influence of Islam on his ancestry and within the Abyssinian empire is a story that is seldom touched upon. Haile Selassie was born of an Oromo Muslim mother - Woizero Yeshimebet Ali, who converted to Christianity in order to marry his father - Ras Makonnen.

Haile Selassie's relative, Lij Iyasu was also born of a Muslim convert to Christianity, however he wore his Islamic identity proudly and once vowed to convert Abyssinia (Ethiopia) to Islam, with the help and assistance of his Ottoman patrons.
