Описание к видео I made this board taller | Arc60 with Nixies Sound Test

ARC60
Yo this might be a hot take but I'm kinda liking how this sounds with taller bumpons a bit more than with the stock bumpons lol. Maybe that's cope but I do prefer clack over thock anyway. But if my desk didn't reverberate so much while using it I definitely would've felt like I had a really unique sounding board which would've been cooler.

Edit: Going back to using stock bumpons lol. At least on the bottom so I can get that deep spacebar sound. I experimented quite a bit more and found that bumpons definitely transmit less desk noise than using long feet (SKUF feet), and I can use small bumpons outside the feet cutouts on the top side of the board and still not get desk noise. Plus loosening the screws helped. I'll make another sound test video soon to showcase this. Of course, it won't be a solution for all of you who had similar problems with desk noise and case ping/hollowness, but maybe this can help you figure out a solution for your setup.

The spacebar really changes a lot once the board is raised higher. With taller bumpons it sounds like case ping (edit: its hollowness, not ping lol). I think they're extra feet I had laying around for the KBD67 Lite. For some reason, I think the spacebar "ping" was more pronounced with the SKUF feet. With the SKUF lite feet I could hear my desk while typing again.

One quick note about the arcane colorway; its definitely a red-purple color, with the redness being a bit more prominent if its under a warm colored light. I was looking at it for a while once I brought it into my room cuz it looked slightly closer to maroon than purple, but it really just depends on how the light hits it. Definitely looks more purple the cooler/whiter your light source is. Arcane will go great with any dark red or dark purple keycap set.

There are plate files available in the clickclack discord, so I'm probably going to try to get a PP plate or a POM plate (maybe both tbh) just so I could get closer to that original sound. Will definitely post a comparison once that time comes since it doesn't look like Vertex is planning on selling a different plate.

MX Blacks (Nixies)
I never understood the love for MX Blacks. Coming into the hobby they just didn't sound great, sounded really scratchy, and honestly the spring weight just didn't seem appealing. I think they only worked nicely in certain boards, and more likely to sound nice the more expensive the board was it seemed lol.

After hearing broken in creams, I didn't think break-in machines were really something worth putting money into. Whether it be paying for broken in switches or for a break-in machine, the results didn't sound that great when there are so many switches on the market, and right now 90% of them are smooth enough once you give them some lube. So even when people talked about broken in MX Blacks, I was still unconvinced.

BUT I decided to give them a chance. I got a nice board now, so maybe they'll sound nice LOL. So I bought the Nixies from Novelkeys once they sold their extra stock (previously was a GB or preorder). I will say this is definitely one of the nicer sounding builds I've ever done, but idk if the switch itself is a top 10 for me personally. I don't think I have a switch that sounds exactly like this, but off the top of my head it reminds me of JWICK blacks. They're not a switch I'd consider soldering into a build or something I'd likely switch to using after a while, but I wouldn't discourage anyone from buying them or saying they're not worth. I think MX Blacks have a large (niche?) amount of people who like them for their sound and feel.
