Adam Schutzman presents an interesting film from his archive at the Preserve & Collect sprout spaghetti dinner.

Preserve & Collect
a sprout spaghetti dinner

We want to hold on to things. Whether we call it collecting, preserving, archiving, or hoarding, we try to bring together like things and save artifacts that are meaningful to us...whether that meaning is personal (as with family photo albums), cultural (as with museum exhibits), scientific (as with specimen preservation), or historical (as with the archival documents). This month's spaghetti dinner will look at the things we keep and why we keep them.

Join us on on Monday June 18 at 7:30PM for food, conversation, presentations, and performances. As usual, we'll be at sprout's studios at 339R Summer St just outside Davis Square. We will provide food and drink and ask for a $10 donation to cover costs. All are welcome!

This month's performers will include ::
John Mayer will share a collection of banners designed to represent the tradesmen of the Maine Charitable Mechanic Association and discuss the museum politics surrounding the deaccessioning and auctioning of collections of artifacts like these

Kris Price will talk about the considerations and concerns of record collecting and share some about his own, impressive collection

Adam Schutzman, after summers spent exploring archiving at places like Bread & Puppet Theater in VT and most recently the Smithsonian Museums in Washington DC, will show some old films, talk about the difference between archives & libraries, and about his own experiences learning what archives seek to do
