The caiman lizard is an amazing pet reptile, but many new pet owners can become overwhelmed with caring for the caiman lizard.

Caiman lizards are a South American species, found in Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil, Guyana and Peru. They are arboreal and semi-aquatic, preferring tropical rainforest environments like streams, swamps and flooded woodland.
Once hunted in large numbers for their skin, Caiman lizards are making a comeback and conservation efforts have seen a significant increase in wild populations.
It is important not to confuse caiman lizards with the much larger caiman, which is a relative of crocodiles and alligators. Caiman lizards have a jade green body and a bright orange or red colouration over their head. some caiman lizards will have darker green colouring along their back and tail. They may also have markings of yellow dots or stripes.
One of the reasons Caiman lizards are not recommended for beginner reptile owners is their size. An adult male caiman lizard can grow as long as 5 feet, while females grow up to 4 feet.
