In the week leading up to the Iowa-Iowa State football game, the Channel 13 team drives around the state in an RV, stopping in communities along the way and featuring the festivities on the station’s newscasts. The communities put on impromptu celebrations to welcome RVTV and highlight their team and civic pride.

Rockwell City was WHO’s RVTV stop on Sept. 11, 2019, and the Iowa Lottery was part of the moment to highlight an initiative that began there and is now making a difference statewide. The state’s new Public Safety Survivor Benefit Fund was established in July and now receives a portion of the Iowa Lottery’s annual proceeds to state causes. The fund will provide assistance to help pay the costs of accident or healthcare insurance for the surviving family members of Iowa peace officers and fire fighters killed on the job.
