Global Hunger Index - The Global Hunger Index (GHI) is a tool that measures and tracks hunger globally as well as by region and by country. The GHI is calculated annually, and its results appear in a report issued in October each year.

In the 2019 Global Hunger Index, India ranks 102nd out of 117 qualifying countries. With a score of 30.3, India suffers from a level of hunger that is serious.

Neighbouring countries like Nepal (73), Sri Lanka (66), Bangladesh (88), Myanmar (69), and Pakistan (94) are also in the ‘serious’ hunger category but have fared better at feeding its citizens than India, according to the report.

With poor food transport and acute shortage of food storage warehouses we are wasting tons of food every day, which accounted for an annual loss of Rs.92K crores.

Many states have realized its criticality and have installed community fridges for controlling food wastage, but still near about 3000 children under the age of 05 yrs dies each day due to this prolonged hunger problem in our country.
