1998 San Diego Thor/Parts Unlimited AMA Supercross Championship (Round 5 of 16)

This is round 5 of the 1998 Thor/Parts Unlimited 125cc West and 250cc AMA Supercross Championships from Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, CA. This is the third of only 4 races from the 1998 season that I have.

Returning contenders like Ezra Lusk, 4-time champ Jeremy McGrath, Jimmy Button, Kevin Windham, Doug Henry, Damon Huffman, Ryan Hughes, Larry Ward, Greg Albertyn, Mike LaRocco, Mike Brown, Mickael Pichon, and defending champ Jeff Emig battle it out for the 1998 Thor/Parts Unlimited 250cc AMA Supercross Championship. This race is well known for Ezra Lusk getting a tuffbox cover in his front wheel and ending up with a disappointing 11th place finish. Yamaha has a bitter sweet night with McGrath and Button finishing 1st and 2nd with 250cc Yamaha rookie Kevin Windham finishing 3rd. 125cc East rider Robbie Reynard makes his lone appearance on the 250cc aboard his #21 Primal Suzuki.

Returning 125cc contenders like John Dowd, French imports Stephane Roncada and David Vuillemin, Nathan Ramsey, former 2-time 125cc Supercross champ Jeff Matiasevich, Ryan Huffman and others battle it out for the 1998 Thor/Parts Unlimited 125cc West AMA Supercross Championship. This series features a near season-long battle between Yamaha cohorts John Dowd and David Vuillemin. John Dowd gets back on track with a clutch win over the charging David Vuillemin.
