WRIGLEYVILLE, CHICAGO // Neighborhood Travel Guide & Tour (Things to Do in Chicago Vlog)

Описание к видео WRIGLEYVILLE, CHICAGO // Neighborhood Travel Guide & Tour (Things to Do in Chicago Vlog)

In this video we pay a visit to a major league neighborhood, known for a stadium that is a throwback to the olden days of professional baseball -- Wrigleyville, Chicago. Our Wrigleyville Chicago Neighborhood Guide & Tour will take us through the area bounded by Irving Park Road, Southport Ave, Addison Street, and Sheffield Avenue.

Thanks for watching this Travel Guide from a Local Living in Chicago about Wrigleyville Chicago neighborhood.

Before Europeans touched foot in Chicago, the area around Wrigley Field was inhabited by tribes like the Miami & Winnebago. Clark street began as a Native American trail and the surrounding land was an Indian village.

This was only 350 years ago.

Joseph Sheffield (namesake of Sheffield Avenue) "purchased" the land in 1851 and several years later a Lutheran minister acquired it.

A church and a seminary were later built on the land bounded by Waveland, Sheffield, Addison, and Clark.

As the surrounding neighborhood expanded rapidly (due to the construction of the Addison "L" station in 1900, the seminary rethought their location and ended up moving out in 1910.

Flash forward to 1914 and Charles Weeghman, a restauranteur, built a baseaball park on this site to be the home of his Chicago Whales baseball team.... how did the Cubs end up here? We talk about it in the video!

Wrigleyville is also home to several other landmarks including Metro, a music venue in a building that once was a Swedish community center, constructed in 1927 in the Spanish Baroque Revival architectural style.

Wrigley Field is a rare surviving Jewel Box baseball park, one of several built across the country, including one that predated Wrigley, Old Comiskey Park.

Wrigleyville is also full of traditional Chicago style homes like bungalows, worker cottages, and greystones.

Of the things to do in Wrigleyville, nothing tops attending a Chicago Cubs game, it's something everyone should do at least once in their life.

There are also lots of sports bars and great dining options like - Murphy's Bleachers, Slugger's, The Cubby Bear, Big Star, Smoke Daddy, West Town Bakery & Tap, Wrigleyville Dogs, Do Rite Donuts, and more!

I hope you enjoyed this Chicago Vlog / Wrigleyville Chicago Travel Guide!
