The preparations for Chaiyapoom and also meeting the kids. Lions Rock at Beaumont School. Since Lions Rock mission statement is to share our passion for music in the hopes of leaving an impact on these students. The project’s aim is to involve music into a charity event that was more than just a concert.
All the kids in Lions Rock! left Harrow with smiles and joy of what was to come from the next 2 days. After 5 long hours on the bus, the team led by Mr. Johnson - who trusts and supported us since the start (and our advisor Mr. Van Den Berg, who unfortunately couldn’t make it to this trip) - finally arrived at Beaumont. We received the warmest greeting from Khun Diana, before settling down started preparing for the show that night. The concert started with 2 student bands and a special band who got together just for the concert. This special band consists of parents and Mr. Johnson. The concert put a smile on both the performers and the audiences who came to watch. As the remarkable night came to an end, the happiness is all around - the Lions Rock! couldn’t wait for the next day, and from the faces of the audiences, neither can they.
This project wouldn’t be as successful without our beloved supporters, who donated a sum of 15,000 baht (in addition to the 50,000 baht that they’ve donated in November) to Beaumont. Besides, we also donated toys, recorders and other musical instruments costly around 18,000 baht to all kids in Beaumont.
The following day, after introducing ourselves and the project, we started with the warmest welcome from the children. We began teaching them the workshops - Body Percussion, Junkband and Cup Song. Thanks to Richy and PunPun - who although couldn’t make it to the trip, helped us prepared everything we used to teach the kids - the workshop was very successful. We split the children into 3 groups and began doing a carousel activity with them - the kids will rotate between each workshop after 30 minutes of learning. We all got back together at 10:45, where we started preparing for the show. We all, after regrouping, taught them one last thing - how to play the recorders. At 11:30, the kids were prepared to share to the rest of the school what they’ve learnt that day. The kids gave an amazing performance, making all of our crew proud of them - seeing the amount of effort they put in, none of us could resist giving them each a small parting gift. As we departed Beaumont, we all looked back at that day differently and may have had different opinions - but looking at each other’s faces, we knew we all had the same goal - we will come back here again.
