11 outstanding horses at auction
The owner of the Danish stud farm Stutteri Unik, Morten Skov has launched an auction of 11 horses in cooperation with Campen Auktioner
At his property Søhavegård situated between Randers and Viborg, Morten Skov breeds dressage horses with the suffix Unik. Several of the horses he has bred are competing at S-level in dressage, and some of these appear in the pedigree of the horses available on auction. Among them is the elite- and silvermedal mare Diva Unik by Blue Hors Don Schufro/Primus X that has competed internationally in small tour before her debut at S-level; she is a full sister to Don Primo Unik that test rider Carl Hester scored 10 and 9.5 in the young horse championship. The achievements of Morten’s breeding programme are numerous, and out of the same damline is the 3-year old colt and great grandson of Diva Unik, Solution Unik by Revolution/Don Juan de Hus, which Morten presents at the stallion licensing in Herning.
This year Morten’s mares are expecting 10 foals by the stallions Be Sure, Blue Hors Kingston, Blue Hors Monte Carlo, Dynamic Dream, Jovian and Revolution – and the first foal has already seen the light of day.
– I continuously select my heard of mares and make sure to breed my best young mares before they go into sport. Therefore, I make use of modern reproduction methods and produce foals by means of embryo transfer, Morten explains.
His young stock is raised in large groups of mixed ages up to three years, and they have access to a vast area of land with a varied surface including a hilly terrain.
– I have consulted with different vets, who all say that it strengthens the horses physically by virtue of stronger ligaments and bones, just as it gives them a balanced mind, says Morten.
Why a sport horse auction?
Morten likes the idea of a short path to the buyer, and this is one of the benefits of an auction. In addition, he finds it appropriate to gather a collection of horses that he and his staff can work with in the time leading up to the auction. There are horses of a quality where Morten would have liked to have kept some of them a little longer, but he believes that it is also important to have a certain volume in the collection.
– We have horses of all ages and levels of training as from 3-year-olds to a horse at Prix St. Georges level. We offer full transparency about the horses' upbringing and, of course, a full X-ray package and clinical certificate, he explains.
The auction house Campen Auktioner, which in recent years has conducted several horse auctions per year, mediates the auction sale of the 11 “Unik horses”.
– We are very happy that a well-functioning and respected stud like Unik has chosen us as an auction house, and we expect it to be a recurring auction every year in March, says the owner of the auction house, Finn Campen and continues:
– We think the timing is perfect, and in connection with the stallion licensing many visitors from abroad take an interest in Danish horses.
This is an online auction where the collection of horses is available online with videos, photos and facts about the horses.
– As from Sunday 5th March there will be an inspection at Morten’s farm Søhavegård, and the auction will still be running for two weeks up until 19th March, says Finn and Morten adds:
– In the meantime, you can also meet us during the stallion licensing, where we will be showing videos of the sales horses and are available for a chat about the horses.
