Bio By She Rox All Female Bands: Antigone Rising began in the mid 1990's in Greenwich Village, New York by founders and sisters Cathy Henderson-Guitar and Kristen Henderson aka Ellis-Henderson on guitar and drums, along with Penelope Kokines-Vocals and Suzanne Obolsky-Vocals and percussion the original line up played a more folk rock and released their debut album in 1996 and another in 1998, by this time hard rocking drummer Dena Tauriello replaced Kristen on drums and the band soon changed to a more rock sound with the addition of new vocalist Susan H Catanzaro aka Cassidy, in 1999 and bassist Ann-Marie Stehn, this new line up minus Suzanne Obolsky, would go on to produce four more albums all of which were fan funded, during this time Stehn would be replaced on bass guitar by Jen Zielenbach and two live albums were put out before releasing the band's break out hit album "From The Ground Up" in 2005. Bolstered by the single Don't Look Back, thanks in part to heavy rotation by many country stations. Antigone Rising was able to mix well various niches of music which only expanded the already solid fan base they had accrued over the years, from pop rock, blues, country rock and touring with such major artists as The Bangles, The Rolling Stones, and Aerosmith to name a few, has proven the sheer talent of these women is proof that paying your dues is the best way to earn true fans and respect from musical peers. At the height of their success the band would release 2007's, "Tales from The Wonderland" however record company issues prevented it's released, and singer Cassidy would leave the band for a solo career in 2008 and eventually released the album in 2009 and changed the name, much to the remaining member's dismay. Bassist Jen Zielenbach would also leave in 2009 for her own solo career and Nini Camps was brought in as the band's new vocalist and guitarist with founder Kristen Ellis-Henderson switching to bass guitar. The new line-up now signed to Joan Jett's label Blackheart Records would release a live Ep in 2010, along with two more Ep's and a full-length album current date and seems to show no signs of slowing down for this massively talented group of super women.
