Columbia Trail from Long Valley - turning around in sudden rainstorm


Since I have discovered this Columbia trail on a on a decommissioned railroad, I have been eager to hike it all section by section as the round trip would be 30 miles in all. After hiking the first section from High Bridge to Califon station last fall (watch here :    • Hiking the Columbia trail :  High Bridge t...   ),I hiked the shortest and last section this spring with my friend Helen, from Long Valley to Bartley Road. However we couldn’t finish the hike and had to turn around due to a sudden storm with torrential downpour. The downpour only lasted for half an hour but we were soaked wet (and didn’t know it would last only half an hour so we had to turn around). We redid this hike the following week on a sunny day this time and could finish it this time (video in the editing phase and coming shortly)
Beautiful trail and hike and beautiful area of rural New Jersey.

in French/ en français : depuis que j’ai découvert le chemin Columbia sur une voie de chemin de fer désaffectée et transformée en large chemin, j’ai decide de le faire dans son ensemble portion par portion (sinon le chemin complet aller et retour représente quelque 45 km). Apres avoir fait la premiere section de High Bridge à Califon (à voir ici :    • Hiking the Columbia trail :  High Bridge t...   )
j’ai fait la section la plus courte et aussi la fin du chemin, de Long Valley à Bartley Road avec mon amie Helen ce printemps. Cependant ce jour-là nous n’avons pas pu finir la randonnée et avons dû faire demi-tour à cause d’un orage soudain et des trombes de pluie qui se sont abattues. Les trombes de pluie n’ont duré qu’une demi-heure mais nous avons été trempées et nous ne savions pas que combien elles allaient durer, raisons pour lesquelles nous avons fait demi-tour. Nous avons refait cette randonnée la semaine suivante un jour de grand soleil et nous avons pu la terminer cette fois (video à venir). Très belle région rurale du New Jersey.
