Pre-match press conference with England manager Thomas Tuchel ahead of Albania v England in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.

Tuchel reflected on starting his England tenure against Albania in March, spoke about how he and the squad have grown together since that first camp and said he has had to learn the job because international football is very different from club football.

He praised his staff for keeping him on his toes with new information, strategies and data on physical output so that England stay on top of the game, and highlighted how Albania have only conceded three goals in qualification, two of them against England. Tuchel called Albania well trained and well drilled, expects England to dominate the ball in an emotional away game, but warned that ball possession alone is not enough and stressed the need to control counter attacks with strong counter pressing.

Tuchel discussed Armando Broja’s directness, speed and physicality, calling him always dangerous because he thinks about scoring and assisting, and said England’s hunger to win and achieve something must be bigger than any fear of losing or ending their clean sheet record. He insisted everything is about the process, foundations and what the team can influence, and that England must deliver again tomorrow.

He confirmed Ezri Konsa has calf tightness and stayed in London for further assessment, with Marc Guehi already out, but said England have strong enough players to find solutions and that someone else will step up. Tuchel praised the intensity of training, said everyone is ready to play and desperate to start, and explained that midfield pair Declan Rice and Elliot Anderson are at the moment ahead in midfield after performing at the highest level for club and country.
