The Enforcement Directorate named former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh as the main culprit in a 7000-page supplemental charge sheet filed in Mumbai's special PMLA court in a money-laundering case linked to an alleged extortion racket in the state police establishment. Deshmukh's two kids have also been included in the indictment. Deshmukh, an NCP leader, was arrested on November 1 under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act after hours of questioning by the ED (PMLA). The 71-year-old is being held in the Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai. After the CBI charged Deshmukh with corruption on April 21, former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh accused him of bribery worth Rs 100 crore, the ED filed a money laundering case against him and others.
