Elite aspirants all want to be part of the ruling class and grab the limited number of elite positions available, but only a tiny fraction may succeed. The competition is getting more severe every year as the number candidates in the running increases massively. This does not bode well for the stability of the Indian State, but the powers that be remain blissfully unaware that we are producing too many law graduates, too many journalism graduates, too many PhDs. The plebs may have not been strong enough to take the reins of power by force, but the failed elites are a different matter altogether. Indian politics are going to get a lot more polarised and belligerent, all thanks to the elite overproduction phenomenon.
