Transcript: According to Drive Tesla, Rivian is recalling over 17,000 of its 2025 R1S SUVs and R1T pickup trucks in the U.S. due to a headlight defect that could reduce visibility in cold temperatures. The recall affects vehicles built between April 29, 2024, and February 3, 2025.

The issue stems from a supplier problem that may cause the low beam headlights to fail at startup in cold weather, increasing the risk of accidents. Rivian estimates around 8% of the recalled vehicles have the defect, but there have been no reports of crashes or injuries so far.

Owners may see a warning message on the driver display stating, “Low beam lights not working. Service low beams soon.” Rivian will replace the faulty headlamp control modules free of charge and plans to mail notifications to affected owners by March 28, 2025.

This recall comes just as Rivian reported its first-ever gross profit in Q4 2024, but the company also warned of lower deliveries in 2025. Transport Canada has not yet issued a recall for Canadian models.
