In this video we should the process where we carefully press the center stud into the ceramic hybrid ball bearing used in the IMS Retrofit kit for 97-05 Porsche Boxster and 911 models. This is the same process used with the RND RS cylindrical roller IMS bearing upgrade.

It is critical that when pressing the center stud that you do not apply a load to the outer race through the rolling elements as you can dent the races which will cause a premature bearing failure. That is the same reason why you have to use the proper bearing driver supplied in our IMS Pro Tool kit when you install the replacement intermediate shaft bearing so that you apply the force only to the outer race. Again, this is to make sure no load is transferred from the outer race to the inner race through the balls or rollers.

We also pre-fill the bearing with a high viscosity lubricant to prevent corrosion before installation and also provide initial lubrication until the engine oil can lubricate the bearing.

Lastly you can see that we add an o-ring to the base of the center stud which seals up against the IMS flange to provide a secondary oil seal to minimize the chance of future oil leaks.
