Nazare Portugal: Where Surfers Ride the World's Biggest Waves. Portugal: Where Surfers Ride the World's Biggest Waves. Recently, I was lucky enough to be able to travel to Portugal, a country I'd been wanting to visit for years! Ann had stay in Thailand for family reasons, so it was up to me to explore this beautiful country on my own. It would also be my first solo vlogging trip. After visiting Lisbon for 2 days, I ventured up the western coast to a city I've wanted to see for years. Because I was an avid surfer in my youth, I'd always wanted to visit Nazare, Portugal, home to some of the biggest waves in the world. Back in 2011, Garrett McNamara from Hawaii rode the biggest beach-breaking wave in the world at Nazare, measuring about 30 meters (over 98 feet), and other big wave surfers from all over the world continue to surf the monster waves there every winter when the waves are the biggest. Check out this amazing town in Portugal, known for it's laid back beaches, and also for having the largest beach-breaking waves in the world!
