Salve Patria was originally an anthem called "Marangal na Dalit ng Katagalugan" commissioned by Andres Bonifacio as the national anthem of the Philippines. When Emilio Aguinaldo changed the anthem to "Lupang Hinirang" in 1897, Nakpil revised and extended the "Marangal" into a grand march and renamed it "Salve Patria"
