Straying from my usual upload variety criteria, I have decided to share a simple video of another Euro 5 ACCO side loader! Back in November 2012 I spent a Friday in the Newcastle area, aiming to catch some modern machinery operating in the council, including the brand new recycle trucks that had just started. I clearly recall I initially started off in Lake Macquarie to finally get those council garbage trucks on video, but luck would have it that it was union picnic day and all the in-house staff were off work! So abandoning Lake Mac, I proceeded further north to the suburb of Beresfield, where I encountered this collection truck with a very friendly operator lifting red lid bins along the straight streets of the area.

In 2011 Newcastle got a fleet of these MacDonald Johnston Ivecos built in line with the new kerbside collection system they had just introduced, thus the featured signage being the standard at the time. They used these 22m size bodies for weekly garbage collections and also got some 29m units for fortnightly green waste, most or all of which have since been relocated to Sydney, used by URM in a selection of council contracts. These trucks are very recognisable with their different rear wheel guards instead of the typical setups, something that the council has been doing for quite a few years now. Today Newcastle still runs Bucher equipment, but they switched to Volvo FE as the side loader cab chassis.
