ReFosTS Summit 2025: Hajiya Lami Fintiri Honoured for Championing Food Security and Empowerment in North-East Nigeria

The first-ever North-East Regional Food Science & Technology Summit (ReFosTS 2025) was held in Yola, Adamawa State, bringing together food scientists, policymakers, and innovators to discuss sustainable solutions for food security and rural development.

At the summit, Hajiya Lami Ahmadu Fintiri, wife of the Governor of Adamawa State, was honored with an Award of Excellence for her outstanding contributions to food security, women’s empowerment, and youth development in the North-East region.

The award was received on her behalf by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, who emphasized the importance of partnerships in sustaining food security across Nigeria.

🎉 Summit Highlights:

Launch of a solar-powered peanut-coating machine, developed by Dr. Kacha Ta’awu, designed to benefit women and youth in rural communities.

Use of local flours like sweet potato, tiger nut, and cassava as healthier, homegrown alternatives to wheat.

Keynote by Dr. Kacha Ta’awu on how food science connects farmers and consumers for safe, nutritious, and affordable food.

Recognition of Prof. Ibrahim Umar, Vice Chancellor of Modibbo Adama University, for his contributions to food and education in the region.
