This video provides a short summary of how UK Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) tax credit/relief is calculated through a company's corportation tax return.

For accounting periods starting on or after 1st April 2024 the SME method of calculation will only apply to a few companies that are classified as 'R&D intensive' which is defined as companies where at least 30% of their annual company expenditure is qualifing R&D expenditure. All other R&D claims will come under the RDEC method of calculation. This will be covered in a separate video.

It's not a complex process but you do need to understand the basis of how corporation tax works, so that is briefly covered as well.2023.

Note that it refers to UK Small and Medium Enterprise claim rates up to 31st March 2023, for R&D expenditure from 1st April 2023, new rates apply.
