Tales from the master of macabre Edgar Allan Poe. In 1960s American International Pictures produced 8 films based on the work of Poe called the AIP Poe Cycle. These films endure because they are more than adaptations—they are interpretations. They took Poe’s short, feverish tales and transformed them into visual operas of color and decay. They endure because Vincent Price’s voice, his gestures, his very presence, embodied the Gothic spirit as though he himself had stepped from the pages of Poe’s imagination.
