BLOOMVILLE — The 68th Annual Strawberry Festival brought a crowd of visitors and local residents together Friday evening at the Bloomville United Church of Christ, celebrating tradition, community spirit, and, of course, delicious homemade strawberry pie.
The event, hosted on the east side of Seneca County, featured homemade food and desserts, all prepared by members of the church. While the Strawberry Festival serves as a fundraiser for the church, Pastor of Bloomville UCC said the real heart of the event lies in community connection.
“This festival really isn’t just about raising money,” the pastor explained. “It’s about bringing people together—from our church, from Bloomville, and from nearby towns like Bucyrus, Upper Sandusky, and Tiffin. This is one of the few times when everyone, even those on the outskirts of our congregation, comes together. That means more to us than anything.”
Despite a rainy morning that soaked volunteers as they set up tents, the skies cleared in time for the evening crowd to enjoy the festivities in ideal weather. The Strawberry Festival included church-prepared meals and a standout favorite: thick, homemade strawberry pie.
“The pies are made entirely by people in the church,” the pastor added. “They’re all homemade, and while I don’t know the exact recipes, they’re absolutely a labor of love from our members.”
This year’s event drew an especially strong turnout, with attendees lining up for food and desserts. I attended for the first time in years and praised the size and flavor of the pie. “It was huge,” he said. “And really good.”
As the sun set over Bloomville, the crowd lingered—visiting with neighbors, laughing, and enjoying a slice of small-town life.
If you missed this year’s festival, organizers encourage you to mark your calendar for 2026. “Come for the pie, stay for the community,” said the pastor.
