The Lost Mansion of Manor Heath Park. Halifax

Описание к видео The Lost Mansion of Manor Heath Park. Halifax

The Crossley Family were one of Halifax biggest employers at the Dean Clough Mills in the Victorian Era. With long and difficult hours of work for employees, the Crossley Brothers created areas of Halifax that would make the grim mill town a better place. These included People's Park and the creation of almshouses, schools, and more.

Manor Heath Park wasn't given to the people of Halifax until the 1920s, as it was the home of John Crossley, former Mayor and Halifax MP. A stunning gothic mansion house, designed by the same architect as Castle Carr in Luddenden Dean.

So what happened? As of 2024, the mansion has been gone for 70 years...blown up by dynamite as the contractor was paid a microscopic £150 to destroy it and to keep the stone. That same contractor going on to dynamite other beautiful buildings across Halifax including The Palace Theatre. But what evidence remains today of the mansions' existence, and can we find exactly where it would have once proudly stood. A home once stayed in by visiting royalty.
