Did you know that TB is still one of the top infectious disease killers in the world? In King County, about 100,000 people have inactive TB, also known as latent TB. Latent TB means the TB germs are inside your body but are not growing. You won’t feel sick and will not spread the germs to other people. If latent TB is not treated, it could progress to active TB. This means the TB germs are growing inside your body and can make you sick, possibly leading to death. 1 in 10 people with latent TB will develop active TB disease over their lifetime.

You can help stop the spread of TB.
If you were born outside of the United States, you may be at higher risk for having latent TB. Ask your doctor to test you for TB. Ask about a TB blood test—it can be more accurate than a TB skin test. TB is treatable and curable! If you find that you have latent TB, there is treatment to kill the TB germs. Talk to members of your community about TB and encourage testing. Let’s stop TB together.
